The Musical Museum is dedicated to showcasing the development of musical instruments, with one of the World's largest automatic instrument collections. Within this large collection are a huge assortment of instruments, from a tiny clockwork Musical Box to the self playing Mighty Wurlitzer and many more; all of which have been restored to their full working condition. There are some beautifully handcrafted instruments in the museum, for instance, they have a large organ situated on the ground floor which has recently been restored to playing condition after an incredible 15 years of silence. Taketwo have a Muscial Museum voucher in their London 2 for 1 voucher and guidebook, which entitles you to 2 tickets to the museum, for the price of 1.
The museum itself is located in Brentwood, and is spread out across three floors. The ground floor is split into four different galleries. Each gallery displays a whole host of instruments from different time periods, such as musical instruments that would only have been found in large houses of the wealthy in the 1920's. The ground floor also has many other interesting and educational displays, discussing how music was first captured and how musical instruments were powered. There are also various exhibitions set up in the museum which depict a street setting complete with shop windows full of music, musical toys and street instruments. Additionally, the museum hosts regularly changing exhibitions related to music and musical instruments.
On the upper 2 floors there is a concert hall, which can seat up to 230 people. The hall is particularly large and comes complete with a stage and, of course, an orchestra pit from which the Wurlitzer console will rise to entertain visitors. The museum has many special events lined up which make use of the large concert hall, for instance a concert was held earlier this year by the London College of Music Choir.
The Musical Museum also boasts a café, known as the Riverview Tea Room, which is open to museum visitors and the general public. The café serve coffees and teas and light refreshments including scrumptious home made cakes and biscuits. Another point of interest about the museum is that it is run by volunteers, and they are all working at there because they have a real passion for music and the instruments- making the volunteers perfect tour guides who are able to answer all your questions. The taketwo book has 2 for 1 vouchers for many more museums in London, such as the London Transport Museum and the Museum of Brands and Packaging. Just take a peek at what's inside the book to find out more about these, and all the other attractions taketwo have to offer.
Tickets for the Musical Museum are £8, and children under 16 years are free (as long as they are accompanied by an adult). With the taketwo London voucher and guidebook, you can get 2 for 1 entry into the museum.
