Each floatation pod contains a liquid bed of Epsom salts and water for customers to float weightlessly on. Floatworks originally started in 1993 in a small unit in Clink Street SE1, just a 5-minute walk from their current location. They started with two float rooms and an old 'coffin-style' float tank, which proved to be un-appealing, as the design did not convince people to try a float session. After investing in a third tank they relocated to Thrale Street in 2000 and then invested in a further 6 floatation suites, making them the largest floatation centre in the world. Inside the floatation suites, sit luxury floatation pods which are much more pleasant than the original float tanks. Each suite comes equipped with showers to wash before and after the float. In 2009, they extended their floatation suites to another 3, making 9 flotation pods all together.

The 9 floatation pods that they have are constantly busy; they receive over 1500 customers each month. The floatation pods that the company designed called 'i-sopods' is state of the art relaxation technology, encasing the customer in a womb-like container creating a silent sanctuary equipped with lights and, if requested, music. As the customer enters the pod, the music signifies the beginning of the session and the music plays again 10 minutes before the session is up. Customers can either choose to have the lights on or off inside the pod. However, it is recommended that to fully appreciate the float the lights are better turned off.
