If its laughs you're after, the 99 Club is the place for you. It is one of the smaller comedy club chains in London, but despite its size, has consistently been chosen as The Critics favourite for comedy; beating the likes of The Comedy Store and The Comedy Café. The list of accolades this comedy club has received is endless, with praise from Radio 4's 'Loose Ends' and BBC2's 'The Culture Show'. The 99 Club has also been listed as the' must see event' in The Evening Standard, The Metro, The London Lite, London Paper, The Guardian and the Daily Mirror; and that's to name but a few!
The 99 Club prides itself on being friendly and fun and that all their performers are exciting, original and above all side-splittingly funny. Every night showcases the best live comedians working today combined with a welcoming atmosphere and an extremely well-run venue. The club has always strived to maintain variety in the comedy they provide, and it now boasts a show every night of the week. That's a full 7 days of hand picked comedy for your delectation!
The line ups are always diverse, with typically 3 acts each night plus a compere who hosts the night. They've had a whole range of stand up comics hosting shows including high profile comics such as Lenny Henry, Russell Howard and Frank Skinner. The club has a fantastic repute among audiences and comedians, and in the last year has seen special sets from Stephen K. Amos, Jason Manford and Lee Mack.
Shows are held in six different venues across the West End and Islington and range from intimate pubs to large capacity nightclubs. Each venue has a different show; meaning you really can pick and choose what sort of acts you want to watch, from sketch acts to big headline stand up routines.
The 99 Club has their flagship club in Leicester Square, based in Storm nightclub. It is the biggest venue in size but the shape of the room and the low ceilings provide the sort of intimate and exciting show for which all the venues are renowned. Additional stores are situated in Islington and Oxford Circus. All the venues are located near major transport stations so visitors are able to make their way to and from the show with ease. Tickets vary in price from £8 to £16 depending on the day of the week, with Friday and Saturday being the most expensive.
